Easter Weekend, March 22nd & 23rd

Harestanes Country Park, Jedburgh.

Despite the snow and the strong winds we set out our stall and lathes to raise a little in the way of extra funds and interest in the club. In the Butterfly Garden we were sheltered from the worst of the weather and we had a wonderful time, chatting to visitors, making the odd sale and watching Bob Fleet doing very impressive things with his pole lathe!!

All in all it was a memorable two days and, despite the weather keeping visitors away, the ones who did come to speak to us were very friendly and seemed to appreciate us being there.

At the end of the two days, we earned enough money to pay for the coffee, tea and biscuits and, more importantly, we got a few more people coming along to the next club meeting - so mission accomplished!!

You set out your stall and wait for the crowds to come!!

.......and you wait .............and wait.........

To demonstrate how to turn, Gavin starts OK - but soon he becomes obsessed with how thin he can turn the wall of a goblet with his new Rolly Monroe - well you gotta have aims in life................

Eventually, Phil takes over, churning out spinning tops, which prove to be extremely popular. Mind you, Kenny reckons Phil has set the lathe to a very low turning speed! ..and keeps telling him!!

In the meantime we all gaze in admiration at Bob Fleet and his pole lathes and wonder how he is going to hoover up all the wood shavings without ....er.........er.........using a hoover? See you in June Bob, up at Wooplaw!
