Our New(ish) Record Power CL3 48" Woodlathe
has finally arrived mounted on a hand-built cabinet!
Earlier in the year, we had successfully bought a second-hand Record Power CL3 48 along with a number of tools.
Our club secretary, Billy Turnbull, volunteered to make a bench to mount it on, and so through the summer, off and on, Billy set to, constructing a bench with a cabinet underneath. We heard of wondrous stories of a bewildering variety of sources of wood from ever more extraordinary locations...... the main rails of the bench are from the floor joists of a railway signal box!!
On the August meeting of the club, with the assistance of a couple of club members and a transit van Billy delivered the finished article to our "home" at Crailing.
Chairman Kenny Morison takes delivery of the lathe and custom-built bench from Billy Turnbull.
.........and what a beautiful piece of work it is!
A professional quality lathe solidly mounted on a sturdy bench which is going to serve the club well for many years to come.
....As well as the lathe we know have a considerable collection of woodturning tools.
